- Special needs children when required by the ARD as a related service.
- These children may ride a regular bus or if required, a bus with an attendant.
- Children who reside one or more miles from their school of assignment. Children who reside in a hazardous area due to local traffic or street conditions that would out them at risk of injury of they were to walk to school. EXAMPLES are Four lane streets or major traffic arteries (not residential with no traffic controls, or no crossing guards in the case of elementary students; railroad tracks etc..
- Bilingual and gifted and talented students who live one or more miles from their school of assignments
- The parents of eligible students (one or more miles from school) may choose to have their child picked up or dropped off at a licensed daycare facility (not baby sitters) as long as the facilities location is within the attendance zone of the campus the student attends.
HOW IS THE LOCATION OF A BUS STOP DETERMINED?
- Stops are generally placed to faciliate clusters of students
- Kindergarten through 5th grade, within two and one half blocks of their home
- Middle and High School up to 5 blocks from their home
- Generally bus stops will not be on street corners and will be located where the majority of the students can get to the bus without crossing the street because the bus obstructs the view of students from other traffic.
PLEASE NOTE:
It is our procedure to cancel a stop if we go there 3 or more times and no student (s) are there to ride the bus. We reactivate the stop at the telephonic request of the parent, but please understand that it takes a few days to do that properly. Changing stop times has a domino effect on those riding the bus after the stop in question. We do this to all stops where we have this situation and when our drivers inform us of such. We to save fuel and to make our routes more efficient. We are on a very tight schedule between elementary, middle and high schools, and saving any amount of time is significant to us.
If you live in an area that is off the beaten path and your child is the only one that rides
from that area, please call us if your child is not going to ride, so that we don’t have to waste time and fuel. We realize that our job is to provide a service that is timely, safe, and efficient for the taxpayers
